Welcome to the next pop-up event from SPEAK, the public speaking platform for people with ideas and stories. The theme for this pop-up is “A.I.” where we will be exploring the ideas and stories of 10 unique and diverse individuals in relation to our theme. Brought to you by producers George Andriopoulos, Fred P. Banny, and Jason Martin.
“Some people call this artificial intelligence, but the reality is this technology will enhance us. So instead of artificial intelligence, I think we’ll augment our intelligence.”Ginni Rometty
SPEAK: A.I. is an impactful and important theme that explores “A.I. (artificial intelligence)” from 10 different perspectives. While a number of definitions of artificial intelligence (AI) have surfaced over the last few decades, John McCarthy offers the following definition in this 2004 paper (link resides outside ibm.com), ” It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. It is related to the similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence, but AI does not have to confine itself to methods that are biologically observable.” The conversations around A.I. and the ethics and oversight surrounding it have been as prevalent as the conversations surround its benefits. These 10 talks will feature takes on the theme “A.I.” and the impact of that artificial intelligence on the speakers’ lives and the lives of those around them.
