SPEAK: Shelter

Dr Kristen Szabla is a neuroscientist, speaker, writer, survivor of incest/commercial sexual exploitation, catalyst for change, and founder of Transforming Pain. With over a decade of experience as a neuroscientist specializing in the neural circuity mediating fear and depression, Dr Szabla has developed a neurobiologic-based approach that has enabled her to positively transform her life to one filled with hope, light, love, and empowerment.
Dr Szabla is an extremely empathic and A passionate leader who is driven to fulfill her mission of transforming pain into authentic power. By redefining and amplifying the conversation surrounding the horror of sexual trauma, as well as other traumatic events, and conveying the deleterious impact of these experiences on the brain, she intends to develop policies to eradicate our societal culture of rape, incest, and trafficking and to transform the powerless to the empowered by teaching neurobiological tools to survivors, as well as to therapists, advocates, volunteers, and case managers, to enable survivors of trauma and those with neuropsychiatric diseases find purpose, meaning, and empowerment.
